Listen and Learn about a Diplomat’s time at Coventry Lake.

John Edward Mellor II 1922-1991

My mother’s brother, John, was a frequent summer resident with the family at 65 Avery Shores. An economist, he became a career diplomat after World War II. He served all over the world accompanied by his wife Carol and three sons, Charles, Thomas and Richard. Posts included England, Poland, Norway, Canada, Japan, and the Philippines. While in Norway, he and his colleagues were hosts to Martin Luther King, Jr., upon his receipt of the Nobel Peace Prize. In Japan, he served as the economic counselor at a time when Japanese automobiles were being introduced into the United States. Visits to Coventry Lake between tours were a highlight of his homecomings.
